Ways to improve cancer aproach in Central and Eastern Europe

Dr. Calin Codreanu

Statement of the Problem:  When you look at the latest cancer statistics in europe you see that the risk of dying before the age of 75 is notificable higher in eastern-central Europe in comparation with western Europe. Some of the components that influences this statistic are socio-geo-economical or impossible to change but others could be easly improved.

The aproach of my perspective is to try to modify the most abordable elements that could improve the lives of the masses of people from a medical oncology resident dr living in my area, point of view.

There are several small key factors that could be changed and lead to major beneficial  impact for a lot of people in need:

Easier Acces to molecular testing. More affordable acces to molecular testing for the pacients that are suitable and could not afford it.  That is beacuse the national program covers the cost of some of the treatments but not the cost of testing in most of the countries in the eastern europe.

A cursive national oncology data base to realise a better screening program for the descendants of the deceased pacients.

Those  are just 2 of the most important targets that are realeatively easy to accomplish in the reachable future.

Conclusion & Significance: a more wildely screening program and a suitable approach to modern molecular testing and furthermore a more extensevely acces to modern molecular therapys in the mentioned areas would increase the quality of the pacients life and implied their family lives and wellbeing.
